I don't think turning it over is the answer -- this style of paddle is
meant to be used with the ridged face as the power face (facing the
kayaker) and the flat face as the back face.

I was just out with a prototype from Cricket modelled after a museum owned
example. Found the best method was to use a stroke style very similar to
a Euro style -- reach out to catch about where your feet are, with the
paddle blade tilted so the bottom edge (nearest the water) is closest to
the bow. Stoke through, with the blade angle naturally changing from this
bottom-forward-tilt to a more vertical orientation to a top-tilt-forward
at exit. A long stroke, with the exit well back seemed to maximize
propulpsion. The bottom-forward-tilt at catch seemed to
minimize/eliminate the dragging of air and cavitation. Paddle seemed very
effective (but I think I'll stick with my Greenland sticks -- like the
more symetrical blade).

Hope this helps.

Keith
