As a volunteer on a tall ship, I can assure you that true men of the
sea took as much pride in their ability to sew their own clothing or
mend/create a canvas sail as they did in seizing a block or taking in
a sail in gale conditions. We get as much satisfaction out of
creating as we put blood, sweat and tears into it. If I stuck to
"women's" tasks, I would never build a baidarka. Have a little
courage man! If I can learn to operate a table saw and scarf a
gunwale, you can learn to sew a hem. ;-)
