Personally I'd have no problem with using marine ply for any component that's
traditionally made from grown crooks, since these are so hard to come by, most
places. Kinda depends on whether you're happy paddling a boat that looks,
from the outside, just like a trad craft, or whether you'd want the frame to
stand up to critical inspection from a traditional point of view.

As I've said - I'd have no problem with such a boat. Seems like appropriate
technology.

    Another trick is to use several layers of 1/8" plywood, with glue smeared

    in between. Bend it to the desired shape, and let dry. Voila.

    

    Stitch-and-glue boat builders say that plywood can only bend in one

    direction at once. So you can make a cylinder but not a cone I guess is

    what they're saying. I don't know if that affects it use in a baidarka.
