Maybe this will help. I found I couldn't do my whitewater(face
tucked) C to C roll in my very (too) large volume sea kayak - I had
to do a sweep roll where I ended up laying back face upward on the
back deck. If you are being trained by whitewater kayakers they will
never suggest this method, due to the danger of face bashing on
rocks. However, it was the only way I could do a roll in my large
sea kayak and the method is not quite as objectionable in open water.
Also, you might consider learning the reentry and roll up first
(using a paddle float) - its really quite easy once you figure out
how to reenter the boat upside down in the water, and then progress
to a full roll.
