Believe it or not, baidarkas at one time roamed as far
south as San Francisco in search of sea otter pelts.
To protect their interests, Russians built Fort Ross
about 70 miles north of San Francisco on the Pacific
coast.

Each year there is a cultural heritage day at Fort
Ross to celebrate the history of Russian America.
Stephen Little Bear took it upon himself to round up
area baidarkanauts to attend the event. His wife
Deborah took pictures and graciously gave me
permission to put them on a web page to share with
others. So here they are. The only baidarkanaut who is
not in the pictures is Scott Williams.

please visit the site for pictures of the event.
