My own reaction to 'synthetics' (however you define that) as kayak skins is
that you're getting so close to plastic kayaks that you may as well save your
time and get a plastic kayak - FTR I think plastic kayaks are great, even
though I don't paddle one at the moment. Aluminium frames are less 'organic'
(however you define that) than wooden ones.
Personally, I feel happiest right now paddling a boat made mostly from organic
materials, even though I chicken out at killing seals for the skin ( - Plenty
of seals around here, but very strict gun laws). OK - they may not last as
long, but who wants to paddle the same kayak for more than 5 years? Not me.
Anyway - as I've said, this is part of a personal world-view and it may well
change tomorrow. Everybody should do what they're happiest with.
