Greetings All.......writing from Union NJ..not exactly a hotbed of SOF
activity,
but I've toiled upstairs in my loft to finally sculpt a vessel I'm happy with:
* Greenland influenced (three chine, including keel) but more arched bottom
* bamboo rib material....fthe process: a froe, thickness planer, and then
some time with a spokeshave and crooked knife.....I persuade the bamboo a
bit with a heat gun
* butternut deck beams......hate to cover it!
* sitka gunwales
* local crook of ash for masik....same for knee brace
* marine ply, Okume, for stem and stern ( drilled out a bit to reduce
weight
at the ends)
* roughly 2.5 armslengths LOA and beam of approx 20.5"
* a little reverse keel curvature just prior to the stern.....just a
hint of
a skeg motif
* have not gotten to cockpit rim yet...........
I'm planing to use canvas and have read the archives. Is there a consensus re:
the most durable nontoxic method of covering the canvas and have these
rubberized roof coatings I hear of endured over time?
Any input is most appreciated. Anyone in the NYC metro area in need of clear
ash, send me an email and I'm happy to give you some FREE......I cut a huge ash
tree this past summer with a woodmizer and have lots.It makes a durable,
if not
exactly featherweight, paddle. Air dried stuff..nice to carve.
David
