Hello all. Two questions. I've despaired of finding clear wood in my area, think I'm gonna laminate my gunnels. Anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.

I've decided on my next boat, on Mr. Zimmerly's site, the North Alaska Nanamiut kayak. On the lines there's something called a "seat batten". What the heck is that? It looks horribly uncomfortable.
