This is how Cory Freedman at Spirit Line does it. IIRC, he has an old
three-burner propane camp stove on which he has a section of galvanized
rain gutter (with end caps soldered on of course). This gets filled with
water and sawn yellow cedar rib stock, which cook for a while (several
hour at least). He's continually building so he just leaves rib stock in
the pot. While building my boat a few ribs broke but all in all I
thought it a good method as the working time is longer than with
steaming. The real difficulty is getting decent wood - clear yellow
cedar is hard to come by outside of the Pacific NW.
