While I'm not intending to create entirely "authentic looking
replicas" of ancient boats in every detail like those in Harvey
Golden's lovely collection, I do feel that "tradition" is also a
living thing, naturally adapting to the personal needs of the
individual paddler/builder...encompassing both design specifics and
available building materials.
Obviously, I won't be sewing seal skins together for either the boat
skin or my Tuiliq...nor will I be harpooning jet skiers and beer
boaters (though I admit, the thought is intriguing at times! :-)).
I do intend to build my boat frame along "classic lines" (for both
handling and aesthetic considerations), but my "recreational" purposes
will certainly influence small details like the coaming rim. While I'm
not considering anything drastic like a keyhole coaming, getting a
really good and secure seal all the way around the coaming is
important to me.

Beautiful work Brian! I'll certainly consider following your example
on the coaming rim. Do you have any full length shots of your SOF
boat? (I love drooling over inspirational pictures of beautiful
boaties!)
