Since I don't see any responses yet, I'll throw in my 2 cents. Basswood is
used in strip built kayaks with a layer of fiberglass, and as planks on some
small boats. I guess I lump it together with cedar. I don't think its strong
enough for the longitudinals, but then I think one of the members uses
cedar, but makes it deeper. I use aluminum, so don't take my word for it.

Anyone else care to comment?
