Hi All....just got a bolt of 10oz poly duck from Tacoma Tent and Awning
and Jack Gilman has been kind enough to offer some good ideas on how to
waterproof it. Wondering if any one on the list has had any experience
applying elastomeric roof paint to the 10oz poly duck and, if so, which
brands seem best and whether there are any tips for good application.

Bamboo ribs; the
sequel !
On the issue of ribs, I have come up with another variation on the
bamboo theme. At the ends, where the ribs take sharp turns at the arch
of the hull, I have been shaving bamboo strips thinned pretty
significantly just at the arch. I size it and put it in the mortise.
Barely need a heat gun to get it persuaded. Then I'm shaving another
thin piece (same width as first rib) about 2/3 of the length of the
first rib. I taper the ends of this mini rib a bit ( to distribute the
load a bot rather than having an abrubt termination) and simply
laminate it on the inside of the first rib centered side to side.
This allows me to get the first rib in without cracking or splitting,
and the lamination then beefs it up. I have been using PVA glue with
good results. I can send an image to anyone interested. Light as
anything...and pretty to boot.

To say that I move about as fast as a glacier is about right. Guess that
is is high time that I publicly thank Skip for all the inspiration from
a trip back in the Spring of '98!!!!!! Now that I am nearly done with
this vessel, wanted to properly thank you Skip for your patience and
your generous postings.
