Salt preserves meat pretty well, but it doesn't do much to protect
cellulose...the bacteria that eat wood and cotton live in salt water as
well as fresh. Worse, salt grabs moisture out of the air, which those
bacteria need...thus, "dry rot" (plain old seawater-immersion wet rot,
only on dry land) affects trailered sea boats more than trailered
freshwater boats.

Rot really isn't an issue with kayaks, as they're not left in the water.
As long as the boat is allowed to dry after use, you'll have no
problems. This is especially true if the boat is used in salt water,
since it acts as a preservative.
