[baidarka] Folding Kayaks versus Traditional Baidarkas

I've tried researching the archive, but have come up with little
regarding my question:

What do people here think of commercial folding kayaks, ie, Klepper,
Feathercraft, Folbot, etc. versus their more traditional native cousins?

My wife and I have paddled several brands of fiberglas kayaks over the
years and I have been wanting to build a Chesapeake kit. However, I have
also considered building a baidarka from scratch, especially as there is
a school near me in Anacortes, WA.

It struck me while doing some research that the folding rib and frame
kayaks were similar to baidarkas... Is this a valid comparison and are
the performance characteristics similar?

I am short on free time, and it may be that I could pickup a used Folbot
Greenland II, Klepper Aerius II or Feathercraft for less than I could
build a double baidarka...
