I am toying with the thought of fitting a sail to a foldboat hull. We have moderate but steady winds here, and it would be great to be able to tack upwind. The inflatable sponsons in the hull should give me enough added safety margin to get away with this. If it works, it would become an option for the baidarkas.
I have a design I am starting to play with, but I would really appreciate input from anyone who has tried this. In particular, I would like references on the principles of sailboat design, relationship of the various force centers, etc.
I am not interested in only being able to go downwind... I want to tack this hull into the wind, so that makes it a whole different ball game. And there would be the added embarassment of finally having to paddle a kayak with a rudder... oh well.
Thanks, gang!
