Insecure? Ok, here goes. Individual lashings, gunnel to gunnel. Beginning
with a slip knot from the gunnel to the rib etc. At the opposite gunnel
it's wrapped several times from gunnel to rib and then wrapped in the
opposite plane to tighten the first wraps, then instead of a knot, the ends
of the lashing are pegged into the rib. Alternate starting sides. Each rib
is also individually lashed to the gunnels. Oh, and I doubled the lashing
pattern. Instead of crossing over the rib on it's way to the next stringer,
the lashings cross twice at each stringer, forming an "X" holding them
together. I realize now that all that is massive overkill. I can even feel
a difference in the stiffness of the frame. I'm building my next boat much
lighter. But I suppose a feet hundred feet of artificial sinew (and man
hours) is a small price to pay for a little peace of mind ;^y
Now I'll probably build something so light (as backlash) that it'll taco on
launch day!

for each rib. Just insecure, I guess. Speaking of insecure, does anyone
bother to use a drop of glue on the artificial sinew knots? To me, synthetic
thread always feel like it wants to come undone. I'm using a square knot
with one additional overhand knot for good measure. ---Randall

fabric tube that contains anything that gets into the cockpit such as the
paddler, grit and water. You need a substantial lip on the coaming to
accomodate the sea sock and a spray skirt.
