I too like to use 'found' wood. Makes me feel much more 'authentic',
whatever I mean by that ;)

Ash is less durable than Doug fir, on the whole, but that's pretty academic
as long as your boat is kept in the dry between trips. My three-year-old
folder has ash stringers and they're absolutely fine.

The great thing about ash is its bending properties. It'd make great ribs,
too, and of course I wouldn't make a cockpit hoop out of anything else.
