When you are using any kind of air bladder or foam for floatation,
there is a trick you can use to get more water out once capsized. Swim
to the stern (keep one hand on the boat at all times) and grab the
stern board. Roll the boat upside down, and hold it there. The
floatation will lift the hull as high as it can in the water, so the
water will run out. You may be able to get a bit more out using the
floatation in your life jacket by lifting the stern as much as you can.
Then roll it upright QUICKLY. If you have a buddy boat there, they may
be able to help this same move from their cockpit by lifting the stern.
You can also do this from the bow, but you won't get as much water
out. Practice practice practice in a pool.
