I have paddled with either side as a power face and find that with the
ridged side facing the rear of the boat the paddle appears more stable. if
you paddle with a loose enough grip with flat side as the power face the
paddle will practically flip itself over into the other orientation. it
almost reminds me a bit of the action of a wing paddle. with the flat power
face it feels much more like a Greenland paddle and requires more attention
to blade angle.
