Peter,
Were you using nylon or polyester? Does the polyester have sufficient
stretch to accommodate your technique?

I did a modification to this that worked real slick I thought I might share.
I did the hammock thing, then marked with a pencil on the fabric the shape
of the bow and stearn with some clamps on the frame to hold it all in place.
I then took it down and sewed the bow and stern seams on a sewing machine. I
made several passes so it would be strong, and even shortening it a bit
futher to get more tension on the fabric when I put it back on the frame. I
used a doubled lap feld seam so there was no raw edge (all the fabric edges
I heat seared to prevent ravel).
I popped it back on the frame to check the fit, and it was fine. I have
done three this way and have not had to resew it any time, it also makes a
nice clean bow and stearn seam too. It was not only cleaner, but faster
too.
Now if I can only figure out a way to sew the deck seam with a sewing
machine I can eliminate all the hand sewing.
