Subject: [baidarka] Ugly "Duct"ling takes to the water

Hi,
Just got back from the first paddle of the "Sea Rider" Folder.
I decided to try my first shrink wrap temporary skin heavily
reinforced with clear duct tape at the bow and stern.
It's kind of cool seeing your feet as you paddle.
Anyway, all went well. My biggest surprise was the stability
of this relatively narrow hull ( 19.5"). I had intended to do
about 30 minutes, but the boat was so stable and agile that
my 30 minutes turned into 3 hours.
The makeshift coaming will be replaced with one made of
Carbon Fiber and the temporary shrink wrap will be replaced
with a PVC skin with zipper closure.
Of the 10 boats ( 7 folders) I've made in the past 2 years,
this one is the most fun to paddle.
Speaking of paddles. I'm almost embarrassed to display
my obviously incorrect and inferior version of a backward facing
Aleut paddle. I think I'll change it's name from Aleut to "Yosteut".
Actually, I really enjoyed Peter, James, and others comments on
the subject. Unfortunately, I'm too old to change.
Knowing what I know now, it's a wonder I didn't drown today. Ha !
I know this isn't an Aleut hull, but it's nice to try
something different for a change.
