The mailing list server does use demime.

Attachments of all types are removed by the demime package,
as is all html formatting. I know for certain if you include an html table
in your
email demime simply removes it, along with all content of the table.

My expectation is the html that hotmail is generating contains <br> in
addition to
a line feed at the end of each line. I haven't bothered to prove that, but
it would explain double and triple spacing.

If your email package contains the option of only sending plaintext to a
particular user, sending only plaintext to baidarka@paddlewise.net that
would definitely cure what is happening.

Both Outlook and Outlook Express contain the ability, within contacts or
the address book of selecting plain text only for a particular user.

If you are shopping for a new web based email provider I've been very happy
with fastmail.fm. email.com/mail.com is hideous - 1 pop up/under window
per email deleted.

I've grown to despise hotmail/msn, I have developed a zero tolerance for
the worthless bounce messages from them. If you are a hotmail/msn
subscriber and I get administrative messages that simply say "delivery
failed" I will be unsubscribing you and you'll start getting the bounce
message. There's no excuse for hotmail/msn not putting in a tidbit of info
on the bounce - like it's a permanant or a temporary error. It's not
unusual for me to get a bounce from hotmail/msn for every single subscriber
to the mailing list who is subscribed from there. Grrrrrr.
