Thanks everyone for your recommendations on the repair of my rip/seam
failure. Since it was over the stem plate (I think its called) and
didn't seem to be widening too much more, I just filled in the hole with
ShoeGue. Seems to be working so far. The ShoeGue redissolves the
Hypalon resulting in good adhesion. I'm hoping that this will hold so I
can avoid cutting and re-sewing.

I "remelt"/seal the edge with hot knife(soldering iron) and then
restitch.
If the resulting gap is more than a quarter inch I sew a patch over it .
Otherwise I fill in the crack with shoe GU. I have used this method to
repair tears on the bottom of the hull (along the keelson) with good
success.
