So I took the Hooper Bay out to the local lake this Saturday. Wanted to
try out a sponson I had cobbled together for fishing stability. Well, the
sponson worked but got on my nerves. I was now being affected by little
chop and windwaves that I hadn't even noticed before as they rolled under
the boat. So that lasted all of 10 minutes before getting tossed onto
shore. I had lashed together a backrest (in the same style as the seat,
planks lashed together edge to edge) and tried that out too. Wow. What a
difference. In one move it fixed about half the things I don't like about
the boat. I foolishly had assumed I didn't need further back support as
the coaming can be leaned on, and it's high up. But I was always
uncomfortable, didn't feel in control etc. That little bit of lumbar
support made a lot of difference. Now if I can keep my legs from going
numb.........
