Jim,
Refer to page 63 of Wooden Boat, January/February 1995, issue 122. It has an
article by Rob Bryan on building a retractable skeg. Also, if you can locate
a copy of Paul Caffyn's book, "The Dreamtime voyage" on page 41 there's
picture of an aluminum rudder that Paul installed on his kayak during his
trip around Australia. Keep in mind that both of these kayaks are hard shell
Greenland boats.
