Subject: [baidarka] boat width

I progressed as far as pinning the ends of the gunwales together, installing
the deck beams and lashing the gunwales. When I removed the inside braces, the
width of the boat sprung back to 20 3/4 " from 22 1/2". I can force the
middle brace back in, but then the most forward aft deck beam is too short by
1/8".This is no big deal to replace.
Should I have left the middle brace in until I had installed the back brace,
malisck(sp) and foot brace?
Will I notice a stablity difference of a 1 3/4" narrower beam? If so, I'll
be more inclined to fix it; otherwise I just assume leave it.
Thanks for your advise.
