Brian,

>>This can happen if the ribs are not flexible enough or are not bent to
the right shape. If they start to curve as soon as they leave the
mortice, they will put stress on the mortise walls.<<

Yes, this is what's happening. A previous responder suggested clamping scrap
wood around the mortise while bending ribs in. I have and this works well.
This leads me to another concern, once the boat is in use, will the stress still
be in the same direction on the mortise? Another words will I still have the
same problem?

>>What are you using for a steam box and steam generator?<<

A big Cajun Cooker powered by propane My steam box is 8" by 6" by 8 feet
long. I cut this in half by stuffing a towel about half way down one end. I get
200 degrees on the indicator.

>>Are you bending freehand or with a jig? <<

  Freehand.

Right now I have 4 ribs in. One is cracked but not all the way though. There
are still fibers connected in the middle. At this stage it is easy to replace,
so I will. Has anybody out there had any success applying epoxy to the
cracked ribs, or is the only remedy replacement.
 Again,

Thanks for your help
