Tom, I do not recall your insert diameters in relation to your tube nner
diameters ... how tight do you go?

I use 5/8" X .049 wall inserts with 3/4" X .049 tubes. This gives a "medium"
fit. Meaning, that it's loose enough to resist freezing up, but tight enough
not to be a sloppy fit.
I like to use 3/4 X .035 tubes as they result in a 5 - 6 lb. weight savings in
a 17 foot kayak, but I've never found a good insert size. 5/8" is too loose,
and anything else is impossibly tight, even the metric tubes I've tried are
too tight.
For lubrication, I have Boeshield T-9 and Teflon. However, I rarely use
either. All rivets used are 1/8" aluminum.
