Wolfgang,

My back and I asked about this earlier, thanks. I'd still like to build
your boat, but 46 lbs is really more than I should handle with my back
injury. Perhaps if I keep the doug fir gunwales (since their strong),
and build all but the ribs with red cedar, it might help. I already
have #10 cotton duck, but I'm willing to buy another skin if it will
greatly help the weight. What do you know about finely woven polyester
dacron? Would this significantly reduce the weight or is it harder to
seal as you mention, and any weight savings in material become lost in
extra coats of sealant?

I've even been considering switching to Geodesic's Rob Roy 14, only
because they claim it can be built between 20 and 25 lbs. But I really
am enamored with your baidarka design, although I'm a little worried
about it being too tippy for my amateur kayak skills.

Thanks for your time and patience.

Mark.
