I am so lazy that my frames do not have any coatings, just raw wood and they
seem to be fine after several years of use in both salt and fresh water. As
much as we hate to admit it, kayaks spend more than 95% of their time on dry
land.

Thanks for the info. The water has warmed up considerably so I don't mind
this realitivly small amount of water. I plan to be getting wet regularly
anyway.
do you see any long term problems with just living with the water. The pine
frame has several coats of boiled linseed oil.
