I rebuilt one of these in high school. It is not a bad for your intended
purpose, the sides are a bit high and the stablity is not as good for a
family boat (unless you have cargo packed low in it). I think using an
Aleut double (or triple?) hull as found on David Zimmerly's site
[www.arctickayaks.com] would yeild a better performing hull. If you do not
like the round cockpits you can always alter it to have one large oblong
coaming. I considered this for a famil boat myself, but eventually just
built every one their own single.
