I heard on the local news today that the Citizenship and Immigration Canada
web site was getting a record number of hits...me, I think I'll stay and be
subversive. I'm going to suggest, a la Jerry Falwell's comments about 9/11,
that the hurricanes that hit Florida and the recent snowfall in the Texas
Panhandle are signs of God's wrath at those places for, um, something or
somebody.

Plus, I'm going to protest the ban on gay marriage as violating the US
Constitution's equal protection clause. How come gays get all the
protection? How about a ban on heterosexual marriage, to keep guys like me
out of trouble? (since one of the reasons that gays aren't to be allowed to
marry is that they can't procreate, and since I wish to remain childless, it
follows that I should be banned from marrying).

In my case I have a 16 year old son that I don't want ending up in a draft.
Although I think it is good to serve your country(in my case 4 years in the
USCG), I do not think it is a just or proper war. I also think that GW is a
lying sack of... And I really wonder why the religious right think he tells
the truth just because he says God a lot... I do agree that Canada has some
of the best paddling in the world, I prefer warmer weather. My experiences
in Canada were BC and Yukon, and one trip to Halifax while still training.
Certainly a wonderful place in January ;^)

The outer coastal parts of BC are some of the most beautiful places I have
ever seen. I spent all my time there on bigger vessels but at some point I
will get up there with something a little smaller then a Buoy Tender.

Off topic, but - It sound's funny to some American's, but it's
serious to others. Here in Canada and in Europe (according to
European radio I listen to late at night), there is some discussion
about how many Americans will be leaving the US to regain or attain
rights they've lost or are losing now. Note the anti-gay initiatives
on various ballots and perceived risk of another military draft and
elimination of abortion rights. Canada has long been a haven for
Americans who need to leave for their own protection - from the
Underground Railroad to the Vietnam draft dodgers. Since gay
marriage is legal in much of Canada, many gays are considering
migration.

The good news it that we've got tons of great kayaking! And a
history of civility - we gained political freedom and adopted
confederation without firing a shot.
