OSHA? Hell. The table saw, from all accounts of people I know that are
accomplished machinists and woodworkers, and my own experience, is the
most dangerous machine. It's just an innocuous looking slot in a
table. Freehanding is not for the inexperienced and is a damn risky
choice for the experienced. People make jigs for a reason.
If I need a paddle so bad as to make one in 4 hrs, I'll write a check.
It isn't worth the risk of severed or badly damaged fingers. They take
6 - 7 weeks to heal, if ever.
Damaged Rt. thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers. Two incidents.
And I've been working with machine tools since the age of 7 or 8.
