Wolfgang made a nearly perfect specimen of the said paddle... I am
using it and when I paddle with the ridged edge facing aft (the power
face), it pulls through the water with comparatively little force.
However when I pull the paddle through the water with the flat side
as the power surface it pulls very hard through the water and yet
seems to provide less thrust to the boat.
So in my novice opinion I don't think it serves the purpose of merely
strengthening the blade... it most definitely serves as some sort of
mechanical advantage.
The fancy vocabulary I will leave to the physics inclined Hatfields
and Mccoy folks that like hot buckshot type discussions.
