How important is this feature in the baidarka? I had a little problem with the bow of my boat twisting to one side. It appears to be due to the gunwale being bent a little at one end. When I split the gunwale stock to make two gunwales, one end pointed up and the other pointed down--thereby causing the twist. I had already drilled all the rib mortises by this point, so I decided to move forward.

I found that once I pegged the bow block in place, most of the twist disappeared. I clamped a piece of wood to where the first deck beam would be, and the twist disappeared completely. Now, I am concerned that cutting the bow block in half and lashing it would make the twist come back, due to the lashing not being able to hold the two halves tightly enough. It seems like once the rest of the bow and the deck stringer is lashed in place, everything should line up again, but I wonder about the value of this extra joint. Any thoughts?
