I put up some info on a short baidarka (14') on my website.
http://www.wolfgangbrinck.com/boats/tales/index.html

The boat was inspired by an aluminum frame version that Doug Huft of
Pacifica did. I had an opportunity to paddle his version this summer
and so decided to build my own.

Main difference between Doug's boat and my own is as follows. My
boat is done in wood rather than aluminum. Doug did his hull with a
semi hard chine for better carving in surf. I did mine with the
usual round bilges. My boat may also have turned out a little deeper
than Doug's. I believe the rear deck of Doug's boat was entirely
flat, Greenland style. I did flat deck beams in the back but kept
the deck ridge, so the back deck isn't entirely flat.

The boat paddles nicely, rises to short waves and sheds water well
for a dry ride. Speed is good. It will do a little over 5 mph. Even
though it is short and has a 22 inch beam, it still seems to have a
lot of freeboard.

For anyone wondering what sort of boat to build next, something like
this might be a nice choice. The boat is especially friendly to
smaller paddlers who will appreciate the lighter weight of a smaller
boat.
