Back when I was in the market for the stuff, I tried sea kayaking
gloves and booties. Most of them useless below 50 degress. But I
found that neoprene gloves, boots and hoods that skin divers wear in
cold water are good stuff. We developed a layered approach that was
good down to 15 degree air temp and 32 degree water with half hour
immersion no problem. This made it possible to paddle Lake Michigan
year-round.
