Great discussion about paddles - challenging assumptions; realising that
there's still a lot out there to be documented in the public domain; as well
as subjective experiences of using the various types, lengths and widths of
paddles; sizing them to kayaks and paddlers and so on.

For me the big thing to come out of this so far is that an Aleut paddle is
by no means just a Greenland paddle with a ridge down one face. The
differences are many and subtle.

There are also questions raised that need to be further investigated - like
the paddle that goes with the Lowie kayak, for example. Was it really a
one-off? Also the question of the grooved ridge on the Helsinki paddle. Is
this another oddball? Are there any others like it?

These questions make this a really 'live' topic and I guess there'll be a
wealth of detail emerging over the next few years before our understanding
really settles down.

I'd like to convey my personal thanks to all who are participating, and
especially to those who are sharing their hard-won knowledge of the sources
with the rest of us.

Best wishes,

Bill
