I'm really interested too Kurt. This sounds like a wonderful idea. Getting
the money and the time for me right now is an issue, unfortunetly. I'll keep
monitoring the development of this idea and who knows, maybe by the time it
happens I could make it...

Symposium

IF a symposium on kayaks/biadarkas/iqyax/canoes were to be were
offered in the Aleutian/Shumagin Island region of Alaska and the
opportunity to paddle skin on frames boats, build skin on frames, in
a remote island camp setting with white and black sand beaches and
protected waters, sea bird cliffs etc....
and prominent key speakers were appearing to share their knowledge
and historical perspectives...how many of our B - LISTERS here would
be interested in participating or know of someone that would be
interested or would like to see someone in particular appearing as a
speaker???

Your travel cost from Seattle is estimated to be $1,000 the
symposium would last approx. 3-4 weeks. If you needed to leave
sooner considerably greater expense would be incurred.

You would need to bring your own tent and sleeping bag, rain gear
etc. Large communal eating and workshop areas (weather ports) would
be provided and food would be provided. Salmon, halibut and cod are
available for harvest.

I am interested in learning how many people might attend, if
something like this were offered. If adequate interest exists, I
will explore the possibilities of getting a grant to make this event
happen.

This could come together as soon as next year.

Requisite are your interests in skin on frame kayaks and paddles and
the ability to camp out for an extended period.

Some skin on frame boats will be available and plastic boats if
demand exceeds available skin boats.
Thanks for your potential interest.
