Engineered lumber is usually heavy and not very water resistant - OK for
home construction, but not for boats. You would do better to 'engineer'
your own lumber by ripping thin strips of cedar, spruce or fir; running
them through a planer or thickness sander; cutting out the knots; and
laminating them with a waterproof glue.
