The plywood frames that are in the picture are not even marine
plywood. They are just test frames. ( I like to make my mistakes as
cheaply as possible! ) I plan on using 1/2" marine with HDPE
connectors, but probably only once. I just like to go through the
steps and find out how various materials and designs work for myself
( I was one of those kids who, even after stern warnings, would still
put my fingers in the fan ). The next one will probably be HDPE but
I plan on doing steam bent and aluminum tubing for the same boat.

I would be a little leary of them as well. I think that it shouldn't
be such a problem to make snap connectors for aluminum cross frames
using HDPE. Use a router to dish out the surface the faces the
tubing. Then screw them on.

Now that I think about it, that sounds about right. A canoe after all
has no deck ridge. But flex is really what I meant to say and I'm
thinking this design may reduce flex a bit. Maybe.
