Brian, if you are close enough to be checking out NWOC's rafters, you
are close enough to go paddling. I am near Poulsbo for the next
couple weeks, so if you want to hit the water, give me a call.

I want to hear more opinions on the Greenland strokes. John Meyer and
I were discussing this a couple weeks ago. My knowledge is mostly
theoretical, so I would like to hear descriptions from those who use
the stroke regularly.
The stroke that I have heard is done with the blade pitched in a
"diving" angle -- when drawn back, the blade wants to dive. The
paddler has to hold it up, which is what locks the blade into the
water and generates forward motion of the hull. I have heard this
described as the "lift" of the paddle -- this relates to the
discussion we had a couple years ago about that term "lift". I don't
want to revisit that thread; this is not about semantics. I would
just like to hear more from those of you who use a Greenland stroke.
