I would think the vinyl does not have a lot of punture resistance. But
somebody does makes a clear vinyl with polyester filaments on about a
3/8 in square grid. It kind of looks like ripstop nylon, except it is
clear between the squares of filaments. It is real strong, transparent
and should hold up pretty good, with a rub strip of some tuff fabric
along the keel line it would hold up fine. I saw some "demo" commercial
folders at a paddle show built this way ( the Port Townsend, Wa Sea
Kayak Symposium in september). Everyone asked if it was available that
way, but these were only built for the demo kayaks to show off the
frame. A pretty neat idea.
