I built a baidarka in 2002, 8oz nylon with Helman's spar urethane. It has more
cracked areas than I can count and it doesn't leak as far as I can tell. I
get some water in but not enough to know if it is leaking or just the water
from entering. I am still amazed the cracks don't result in leaking. I scraped
a submerged pipe a month ago which knocked off a chunk of finish but left the
nylon ok. I mixed up a small batch of epoxy and filled the area and it is
holding great.
