>From an unpublished report by Joelle Robert-Lamblin, 1980 on Dr. Zimmerlys
web site there is described a bailer of 46 cm (18 1/8 in.) long by 17.8 cm
(7 in.) wide. This bailer is in the National Museum of Copenhagen,
Ethnographic Division, no. P 538. This dimension would make it about the
size of a football.the length seems about right, but the width seems way too
large. From the picture I would guess the width to be about half that, while
17.8 cm circumference seems too small. Given that we none Aleuts are
physically larger, thus building deeper hulls, the length may need to be
somewhat longer than the 46 cm. Like your baidarka, make it to suit you, I
am sure the Aleuts did just that.
