Bill,
You may want to consider Bill Low's method of skinning. It provides
longitudinal tension without having to pull the skin up the sloping
cutwater. You can put the main seam in fore and aft up to level with
bottom of the cutwaters. At that point you can release the longitudinal
tension and cut the cutwater slopes in the skin, then sew them using
Bill's cross pattern stitch. After the cutwaters are sew in, the main
seam can be continued fore and aft to finish the job.
