Nov-06-2009 - Richard Carpenter (blue_tarp@hotmail.com) writes:

I own, actively sail, and have conducted a series of restorations/modifications on a Victory 18, designed by William F. Crosby. My boat is registered in Seattle, Washington as being built in 1960, but this was just a guess at the time I purchased it, seeing it on a trailer collecting rain on a Seattle street in 1995, since actual documentation of its build-date was unavailable. I have a set of detailed plans, and I would be interested in hearing from other owners/sailors who have experiences of sailing and working on this particular boat, designed by Crosby to promote marine plywood as an innovative boat-building material in the late 1940's.

I am interested in any and all info I can get on the Caballero design of Charles Ungerbuehler. I have the free plans from svenson's and also ordered them fron D. N. Goodchild. Does anyone know if the article in Twenty Boats (1952 edition) gives any more detail? If so, I would be interested in purchasing it. If anyone has any info on Caballero I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

Regarding Triton plans...they are available from David Goodchild at www.dngoodchild.com in the form of the complete reprint of the original article in the Rudder magazine. While the quality of the drawings are fair, they are legible--moreso than the Triton drawings in Stewards Boatbuilding Manual, 3rd edition, and are more complete. Mystic Seaport Museum and Library is reported to have them as well, but at my request they were unable to locate any but the sailplan. Woodenboat Magazine, which used to sell plans for Triton, refers us to William Steward, Robert's son, but the phone number is no longer working. I have mailed a letter to his last known address and if this bears fruit for fullsize plans I'll report back.

I recently acquired a copy of Mechanix Illustrated March 64 as it featured 2 really good small boat plans 1 being the Fun-Fish sail boat and the other being the Snapper hydro-kart. I really wanted to have a try with the hydro-kart but unlike the sailboat plans the hydro-kart plans are incomplete. The top and side views with dimensions are included in the article but the rib or former sheet was not reproduced in the article for some reason. I was doing some searching and found reference to the plans in 20 boats you can build 1964 edition. It is listed as plan #19 "Snapper lawnmower power hydro-kart by Hal Kelly" and all I really need is a good quality scan of the former pattern page or pages for this interesting looking little craft. I would also be interested in the whole article as it may offer some better building tips than the magizine article. If someone can help I would be greatful. Thank You

I have another one number 111. It is a bit battered (had a hard time, only page 27 to 137 left) if anybody is looking for information on any of the two books, would be willing to send it. I am looking for the plans of SABOT a 8ft ply dingy, if any body has a copy I would like to get it. I built this dingy about 20 years ago but lost the book. I forgot to check which copy it was in, about 1958.
