The only question I can maybe help with. Resorcinol will
surely do the job, but I find it really unpleasant to work
with--reminds me (not to be unduly gross about it) of a
coal miner with a bad head cold. (Actually, IMHO, it's
tough to be too gross about resorcinol.)

One alternative you might consider is the new polyurethane
glues, Excel or Gorilla Glue. (There are other brands, but
I have not yet used them.) You get a long working time,
excellent strength, and more than adequate water resistance.
That is, it won't pass a long boil test, but how often do
you plan to boil your boat? For anything short of that,
it's fine. It's even slightly more tolerant of loose joints
than resorcinol, though nowhere near as good at gap-filling
as epoxy. Just be sure to clamp with modest pressure--
enough to ensure a good bond without squeezing so hard that
you get a starved joint.
