Pat: For what its worth, I made a boat with Bruce Lemon this April.
Although the weight of nylon that we used for the moment escapes me, the
shrinking process involved a common household iron set on linen. With one
of us on either side we kept the irons moving, albeit slowly, and shrinkage
was noticeable but not particularly dramatic. The coating that was applied
further shrunk the nylon, and now is snare-drum tight. Hope this helps.
