Subject: [baidarka] Shrinking Dyson's 11.5 oz nylon - suggestions??
Date: Mon, 27 Jul 1998 09:34:28 -0500
Has anyone made a skin boat using Dyson's 11.5 oz nylon twill material,
and can you offer any suggestions for shrinking the material prior to
applying Hypalon? I finished attaching the skin this weekend to my "Rob
Roy" kayak, and am ready to shrink it. The techniques I've read about
seem to conflict with one another....some say to just spray the skin
with water, then let it dry. In the recent Wooden Boat article about
Lemon's kayaks, it was stated that the skin was ironed to shrink it.
What's the appropriate way to shrink this 11.5 oz skin...any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
